I was flicking through a magazine and a perfume sample called Mon Guerlain Eau De Parfum caught my eye. Usually I have a love hate relationship with perfume samples because I find the scent ( once opened ) to be overpowering. However this sample was different, there was something sophisticated about the scent and without hesitation I bought it.

The description: Mon Guerlain, the House’s new fragrance, is a tribute to today’s femininity a strong, free and sensual femininity, as inspired by Angelina Jolie.

Ingredients: A fresh oriental fragrance with Lavender from Provence, Sambac Jasmine from India, Sandalwood from Australia and Vanilla Tahitensis from Papua New Guinea. These lovely ingredients make for an intriguing composition, which is very feminine and sophisticated but never over powering

The Scent:

Mon Guerlain opens with a quick burst of sweet citrus (although the official perfume description has no mentioning of any citrus notes I could still detect it ) the scent transforms into a vanilla burst I can detect a little jasmine but the predominant scent is vanilla, which is very rich and very warm. The perfume is concentrated and the sillage is impressive to an extent but didn’t last long and I had to top it up

The Top Notes: Carla lavender

Heart Notes: Sambac jasmine

Base Notes: Vanilla tahitensis, album sandalwood

The Bottle

The bottle is very stylish and feminine. Mon Guerlain is housed in a clean, angular glass bottle adorned with a clear crystalline “quadrilobe” cap. The perfume liquid is tinted a rosy hue and the Guerlain brand name is etched near the base.

If you don’t like vanilla steer clear of this scent.

The scent in my opinion doesn’t last long and you may have to top up. Because of this issue I won’t purchase this product again.

Because I had beauty points on my Debenhams beauty card I paid half of the retail price of £44 quite a bargain!

Have you tried this perfume ?

On Saturday the 9th of September I was lucky enough to go to the Asos Go Play event. ( One of the perks if you are a member of the ASOS A-List ). I didn’t really know what to expect but it was an opportunity I couldn’t resist as the email suggests… This unmissable experience will immerse you in a wonderland of makeup, hair and skincare, free from stereotypes, rules and limits. The event was held in Covent Garden and I took my friend Rachel along with me. We both love makeup so it was nice to hang out with someone who has a mutual appreciation for all things beauty related.

We arrived at the venue and were greeted by the sounds of music and banners and posters promoting the event.

We were also greeted by security who went through the usual verifications etc. Once inside the friendly Asos staff guided us through different rooms….

The balloon room. This room had a variety of water filled balloons stuck to the ceiling…

I wasn’t too sure about this room …

However Rachel appeared to enjoy it !

We then moved onto what appeared to be a square filled with golden balls. In order to get to the other side we had to through the balls ….

We were then greeted by a sign….

Once we walked past the sign we were greeted by this ….

A giant wig ! I was rather intrigued by this and so was Rachel …..

As we moved on there were more things to interact with …,

And then we entered beauty heaven Asos had an entire beauty range in one room and that’s not all … we were allowed to use them …

Rachel and I died and went to beauty heaven! There were so much products to use!

A brilliant opportunity to test out Lime Crime products.

Asos stylists were also at the event carrying out makeovers using GHD and various other products. So while I took some blog photos Rachel jumped at the opportunity of being styled and pampered

I had an interesting chat with the stylist in regards to how to style different fashion looks and also what her job entails. The stylist used Gorgeous GHD products on Rachel’s hair ( I thought GHD only produced hair straighteners! )

Rachel’s completed look ( absolutely gorgeous)

Once Rachel’s pamper session was over we continued to swatch and make notes of our beauty favourites

Before we left we were prompted to take part in a lucky dip and I managed to get my hands on these products!!!!

I died and went to heaven! My lucky dip prizes were GHD products!

The event was such a positive experience. Ok so my beauty wish list might have grown slightly however I found new products and new products I could swatch and test out at my leisure. September was my birthday month and Asos put the icing on the cake by making it a memorable one!

Have you tried the products in Asos’s Face + Body section ?

If, like me, you don’t wear heels on a regular basis, special occasions can instill pure dread at the thought of having your feet trapped in heels for an entire day!

I’m probably over exaggerating but I don’t wear heels on a daily basis as I work in a job that requires me to wear flats and the majority of the time I usually wear trainers.  So heels are mainly worn for special occasions etc.

I’m sure the following resonates with some of you; We’ve all been there… those elegant heels that work so well with your new outfit turns into murderous weapons of torture by the end of the night. With the balls of your feet screaming blue murder and swelling by the minute, you either decide very little movement is best, or you kick-off those heels.

I thought I found a solution to my discomfort in the form of foldable flats found on Amazon. The manufacturers description ” Dance the night away, then when your feet hurt just slip on your roll up shoes”

Unfortunately I hopped the night away and the flats caused more pain than the heels! The flats were poorly made and offered very little support, by the end of the evening they fell apart and that was only after wearing them for a couple of hours!

I wasn’t put off by this because I knew there had to be a pair of flats that met my criteria if not I will invent my own! So my checklist for the perfect flats included;

  1. Comfort
  2. Quality
  3. Durability
  4. Price

Step forward the Rollbab fold-up, compact ballerina pumps!!!

The foldable flats you can pop in your handbag and call on when the pain kicks in. I found them on SecretSales.com I was slightly dubious about these shoes as I have never heard of them. However after a lot of research I took the plunge and made the purchase. In the parcel I received:

  1. Foldable Flats
  2. A dust bag
  3. Matching bag ( that doubles up as a tote bag )

The flats are beautiful and very comfortable so much so they can even be used as an everyday pair of flats as opposed to a standard pair of “back up of flats” which may offer little support.

Materials: upper – leatherette, lining – leatherette, sole – thermoplastic. As you can see the soles have grip which was a big selling point for me because I hate shoes that don’t offer support especially on slippery prone floors.

As you can see the shoes fold very well which allows you to pop them into your bag while on the go for a discreet alternative to heels.

I bought two pairs of Rollbabs. A funky silver pair and a black pair ( nice and plain and versatile for the office etc ). They are well made, so much so they have lasted me six months and are still in good condition.

The matching bag is very handy because it doubles up as a tote bag in which you can easily store your heels etc into etc.

I highly recommend these flats for ladies who are on their feet all day and need a pair of reliable flats; also for those of you who have a special event to go but wold like to slip into something more comfortable in the evening

As always my posts are not complete without the price ….Drumroll

These flats retail at £69 however on Secret Sales website the price is discount to £32 !

I managed to a whittle the price down by using vouchers from previous purchases so I ended up paying £25 for them!!!!!!!.

Rollbab flats are usually sold on Secret Sales website. Please note the flats are listed on the website for a limited period.Do you use foldable flats?

I discovered Hugo Boss Orange Eau de Toilette  a few years ago and since then it has been one of my favourite fragrances. So if you would like to know where I found this product this at a bargain price then read on…

The description: BOSS Orange Woman is a warm passionate fragrance that combines the uniquely liberating notes of crispy apple and white florals with a vanilla and sandalwood heart. They fuse to create a warm, inviting and free-spirited scent, that you can wear with passion.

When was it launched?

In July 2009, Actress Sienna Miller is the face of this luscious floral scent for women.

The top note is sweet apple the which is a tad dominating at first, however it does add freshness to the composition. After five minutes it does loose its sharpness and evolves into a more lighter less dominating smell. I didn’t smell the reported white floral as mentioned in the description. However the creamy light vanilla with a subtle hint of cinnamon and beautiful sweet buttery Amber and wood make for an amazingly attractive base that lasts.

The design

As well as the scent one of the other things I look for when purchasing a fragrance is the design of the bottle. I tend to avoid clichéd designs, in preference for a more sophisticated design. The design of the bottle is very modern and the bottle is carved and sculpted combining the elements of metal and orange glass stones.

According to Hugo Boss the seven identical stones  characterize 7 Chakras, deeper spiritual dimensions. Stream of energy through human body is symbolically presented with the design of the new Boss bottle.

I’m not sure if i’m completely won over by it. although it is chic and a lot of thought has gone into the design concept  it doesn’t have the wow factor for me.

The cap on the bottle it’s not travel friendly and comes off every so often. However this hasn’t put me off from purchasing another bottle as I often use an atomiser.

The price

This fragrance usually retails from £29 -£34

The cheapest deal: Ebay  ranging from £24 new and boxed!!!!

(  Please note this is the best deal I could find for a 30ml bottle. However the price varies on Ebay so don’t forget to use the filter when searching for the item to find the best deal)

Have you tried Hugo Boss Orange?

When purchasing a mascara I look for for three things; Volume, Length and price. So while browsing through Superdrug’s website  I stumbled upon L’oreal’s False Lash X Fiber Mascara.

DSC_0006 (1)

“Introducing new False Lash X-Fiber Mascara, for our ultimate false lash look without the hassle of false lashes or eyelash extensions. Extreme length, extreme volume, extreme build-ability”

The description ticked all the boxes and I was really excited in trying out this product. However with a £10.99 retail price tag at Superdrug and a £7.99 retail price tag at Boots I was unsure if it was really worth investing in. So I set myself the challenge of searching for a more affordable price, through past experience I have spent money on a mascara due to the description only to be disappointed by the performance of the product and the money wasted. After carrying out a product price search I successfully found the product retailing at £4.99 plus free postage. Would you like to know where you can purchase this item ? Carry on reading…

The mascara comes with two different steps. Step 1 is a volumizing black primer that thickens the look of each lash to build extreme volume.

The wand for step one has an hourglass shape and the formula is great it glides onto my lashes nicely; so well that I often forget to use the Step two lengthening fiber wand! which is a plus for me especially if I am in a hurry. I have used mascaras with a white primer formula and although they look great in terms of adding extra length, the process of coating your lashes with the black mascara can be time consuming and annoying especially, if like me you have a busy schedule. In short having a black primer is a good idea and a definite win with me.

Step Two has lengthening fibers enriched with 20X more fibers (vs Superstar Original) for extreme length. The wand for step two is curved and contains fibers.

IMG_0461The important thing to remember about the L’Oreal Paris False Lash Superstar X Fiber Mascara is that you need to apply the fibers while the primer is still WET. I forgot about this and ended up with clumpy lashes, sore eyes  ( due to my eyes being sensitive) not to mention the flakes on my my face. So it’s really important to apply the fibers straight after you put the primer on.

I think the L’Oreal Paris False Lash Superstar X Fiber Mascara would suit a lot of people who like the false lash look without the hassle of false lashes or eyelash extensions . The difference in my lashes are great! and I definitely would purchase this mascara again

So lets do a price comparison…..

SUPERDRUG.COM Retails the product for £10.99

www.boots.com retails at of £7.99

I purchased this item on Ebay for £4.99 yes £4.99 !!!

Ok I know some people out there might be  wary of buying makeup from Ebay but let me assure you this item came sealed and works perfectly.
